This, I use shit mons all the time, makes the game a little harder. I'm using a wigglytuff in firered and it's fun, it has an amazing movepool so it works well enough, but it really is quite frail despite minmaxing HP

Meanwhile I'm surprised at how competent Seaking in HGSS actually is, I'm using a specially defensive tanky one and it saved my ass against Sabrina despite being 6 levels lower.

It's a Stat based RPG, I'm playing on set without items and rotating teams for fun.

If you don't care about Pokemon stats you are doing it wrong.
It's also satisfying as fuck to have a fish jab a dragonite for the win.
