FR/LG are better than R/B in just about every way, but Gen 1 is still fun. If you're interested in seeing how the franchise started then I'd say they're worth a play. They aged just fine besides the limited bag space and shitty learnsets, but if you store your items in the PC and make use of TMs you'll be okay. Also a lot of the sprites are pretty ugly, but I'm sure you already knew that.

Play Emerald, it's pointless to play the same game twice and it's pointless to play an inferior version.

So yeah, people should just play FR/LG, Emerald, HG/SS, Platinum, B/W, B2/W2, and then of you are reaaaaaally bored X/Y, or just skip XY and play US/UM.
