Honestly people complain about their interactions with "that kid" at school but you know what? I had one of these memory carts which were basically save states back in the late 90s. I just traded myself my mewtwo a bunch of times from red to blue. That's not cheating. I also would use it on silver and gold to duplicate rare candies and masterballs by trading pokemon that held them to silver and resetting gold with a save state. Also not cheating.

In 5th grade during gen 2 we would also do battles and the winner would get 1 pokemon from the roster of the loser as a reward. People would generally rematch and attempt to win back their favorite mons. I would always release them and laugh as their work vanished. I remember doing this to a kid's shiny Espeon and he cried then was ridiculed by everyone for months for crying.

He's talking about twenty years ago with Red and Blue. It was not nearly as easy then - - wifi wasn't an option and a child, nevermind multiple, was likely to trade away what even they understood was a one of the kind Pokémon that was by far the strongest. Even if you had two games and two gameboys yourself, you had to play through the game six times. Maybe it's not difficult but it's super fucking time consuming and tedious... Which is why it was easier to cheat.

I was a teen (15 or 16, I don't remember) when I stole a kid/guy's Meloetta. I asked in a Facebook group for someone to trade me a Meloetta so I could register it in my dex, somemone offered me his help and after the trade was done, I said "thanks lol" and disconnected. He made a post reporting me and I said something along the lines of "bad luck lol". Nowadays I feel really guilty for what I did. I shouldn't have been an asshole. He was a really nice guy and I probably defiled his innocence.

You don't even need to trade for it. One of the default player names makes mewtwo spawn. Any kid who was named red who went looking for missingno would end up with a box full of mewtwo.
