Take a grass-type, slap 1-2 rain dancers on their team to weaken fire-types and Ludicolo as ace and suddenly you made mono-grass interesting, but also fucks one of its obvious weaknesses.
It's like Gamefreak has a very interesting and deep battle system but they don't fucking know how to use it properly.
