I think the "Sugimori hates Venusaur" thing is a mistranslation. If you search for "sugimori venusaur" in the archives, you get lots of hits from posts with references to interviews etc where Sugi has said his favorites are Venusaur and Gengar. This shit >>43562220 is probably just him talking about which Pokemon are his least favorite TO DRAW, which was then mistranslated by some dumbass.

I saw the interview in Japanese where Sugi said Venusaur is his favorite but It makes me think that Sugimori is either a troll or he has some kind of weird love to Venusaur since he never drew Venusaur in any artwork or give a good design.
He always made the worst renditions to Vensaur and he didn't drew it in any of Gen6~Gen7 games, including Quest.

Masuda isn't a real pokemon fan.
he's just a furry who took direction of the series to push his furry agenda.

his first game Ruby/Saphire introduced the first digimon furry, Blaziken, which then became a standard for starters ever since.
His favorite starters in Gen 7 and 8 are respectively Incineroar and Cinderace because they are his fursonas.
He's also a huge fan of Lucario and Eevee

Ken Sugimori didn't do any art for this Gen. He uses rough lines because he draws on paper and scans them first. This is purely digital (Everything is smoother). They hired an independent artist.

Hi i forgot to say, ken Sugimori is also know for pasting art against realistic backgrounds in his older works (TCG). Now he uses 3D backgrounds. He did not draw the artwork for any of the characters (he did do the card design tho. only the background). Check out the credits here:
