Just restart the game. Do you get upset when you can't reset dungeons in Zelda? Do you get upset when you can't repeat old chapters in strategy games? Do you get up upset when you can't rewind the story in other RPGs?

That's what you'd have to do with literally any other game.
If nothing else, you can save a savestate at the start of each gym, to go back to when you want to replay them.
