The new rival is your school bully who fucks your crush in front of you during school. He also killed your dad right in front of your eyes, which is why you have a single mom. Your bully is way stonger than you, both physically, and as a Pokemon trainer. He regularly beats the shit out of you and insults you, when your crush watched and laughs at your almost dead corpse. He also steals your Pokemon and even sometimes kills them

I've had a similar idea with the rival being the players older sibling or something. They would initially be nice and maybe a little condescending toward you, but as you get better and they start losing they would turn angry and jealous as they cope with their little brother/sister being better than them

Your rivalry would end with him once you defeat him in the Pokemon League. At this point, he gets super pissed and he charges at you, ready to kill you with all his rage. You end this by using your Pokemon to kill him first, before he kills you
