I was 13 when BW came out and I saw a YouTube video that said you could make your Pokémon shiny by obtaining a “shiny spray” that could alter your Pokémon’s color. Idk where the video is now but I believed it and I searched for many weeks finding that thing. I realized it was never in the game and I was stupid.

up until gen 3 I only ever used my starter because I thought regular Pokemon caught in the wild would be too weak and impossible to use.

When the rocket launch count hits No. 100 they can send you on a launch where you encounter Jirachi.
What annoyed me and why I believed it was the rocket launch was always increasing. They didn't have to program a launch counter but they did, for no reason.

I only ever believed one and that was that Mew could be found in glitch city. Everything else I read while dialed-in to the internet seemed too out-there to believe, like secret HMs that would let you out of pallet town into the grass outside.

Think I was about 6 when I played platinum the first time. I’d seen some of the diamond and pearl anime and I legitimately thought that if I picked dawn I’d have to do contests and the grand festival instead of badges and the league. Never actually picked her and found out I was wrong but I believed it for like 4 years.

I legitimately believed that choosing a male/female trainer model affects how strong a Pokémon can be. If I chose a male, then female mons would be stronger than male, otherwise if I choose a female, male mons would be stronger than females.

I thought the Sp. in the special stats stood for speed and that the stats had something to do with a calculation that factored in both speed and attack or defense.
I later thought that special attack was how much indirect damage you could do and special defense was how well you could defend against indirect damage.
The funny thing was I knew that the icons in the gen 4 games represented whether it was a blast move life flamethrower or a physical move like mach punch, however i still thought they used attack and defense and was a context thing.
I strongly associated the memory of finding the hgss safari zone with playing through sapphire for some reason and constantly forgot that the it's not a hoenn location
I thought that pokemon from gens 1-3 were all created at the same time and had always been there and when gen 4 introduced new pokemon that it was some huge, irregular thing to do, and was a special event that never happened before (I obviously started in gen 3 and didn't really understand the whole generation thing yet)

There was a rumor at school that the S.S. Anne would return in Red/Blue after 1000 hours of playtime. No one knew who started that rumor but everyone heard about it and no kid ever even came close to 1000 hours to prove it wrong.
