It's basically Mewtwo, but better. Trading off 9 points in Special Attack is worth the vastly superior bulk and immunity to toxic stalling. Also can run a stupid amount of sets such as life orb/choiced attacker, agility, cosmic power to really abuse Pressure (unlike Mewtwo). Eternatus has all the tools necessary to do all of its jobs very well and is a wincon in multiple situations.

Stall Mewtwo was only good before Gen 5 when it had no way of beating Blissey.
Defensive Eternatus and Cosmic Power Eternatus are actually good on their own.
But you are right about Mewtwo hitting harder, but a Psystrike does only slightly more than Draco Meteor.
