There's no reason to not have a Light typing. If I'm correct, this is going to be next pokémon type to be added.

Fairy is as close as we'll ever get to a "Light" type. Solgaleo, Lunala, and Necrozma all being Psychic pretty much killed the idea of a Light type. Between Fairy, Psychic, and Electric, Light is covered.

Fairy makes sense because the type was made to counter Dragon, and both Dragons/Fairies are mythological

Because it accomplishes the same thing while allowing more diversity in designs. And Fairy was made as a Dragon counter first and foremost. Fairies and Dragons are both mythological creatures.

I wasn't the one who made that. I don't think sound type can make it due to lack of range. But Light definitely has enough concept, even more than Fairy.

Pokemon types are deliberately made to be all-encompassing.

If you want to get technical, fire and heat are two separate things. As are fire, lava, and magma. But the purpose of simplicity, Pokemon lumps all in together. So a microwave (Rotom-Heat), a lava creature (Magcargo), and a firebreathing lizard (Charizard) are all Fire type.

Sure light isn't a horrible idea, but with light itself being mostly intangible it doesn't really interact with stuff very well, not to mention it's nearly always represented by Psychic for some reason.
Here's a better idea: GLUE TYPE. A type based around sticky and gooey non-toxic substances.
SE against Steel (because metal things can easily be glued together) and Fairy (because it needs a nerf).
Weak to Ice (because freezing glue removes its stickiness) and Poison (because corrosive acid can melt glue).
Pokemon retconned: Grimer line (poison/glue), Solosis line (psychic/glue), Accelgor (bug/glue), Goomy line (dragon/glue)

Because fairy seems more down to eart, also light suffers from temtem type syndrome, where literally every design would be "it's just a creature with some light on it somewhere". Yes pokémon is also very guilty of that usually.

Light as an element is already covered by Electric and sometimes Fairy
Light as a force of good to vanquish the darkness is already covered by Fighting
there is no reason for this type to exist, especially with those strengths and weaknesses. Fairy doesn’t need any more advantages and Ice certainly doesn’t need a new set of dipshits to make it more worthless than it already is.

I would consider Oil to be within Poison's territory, but I also think its a property that has potential to stand out as a mechanic of some sort. Definitely an idea worth exploring, I just don't think there's enough there for an entirely new type.
