because the turn 1 damage is exceedingly important
doesn't matter that much if you'll do 160 damage in 2 turns if your oppo has swapped into a 4x resist thanks to fury cutter being pretty fucking easy to predict or if your mon has been killed
doesn't help that fury cutter has one of the worst offensive typings

Alright well Fury Cutter was neatly explained by others in this thread. I have another move to question: Future Sight.

I have no idea why no one ever uses this. It's 120 base power now. You cannot use Protect against it. Yes the opponent can switch into something that resits it, including a Dark Type if they have one. But that then means they are forced to waste a turn switching. Using the move Future Sight is rarely a wasted move on your part. It may take a turn or two to hit, but when it does it hits them hard. I've used it a lot, Future Sight can really fuck people up.

People have begun using it more now, actually. Go check some Sun/Moon sets on Smogon, they have Future Sight. Shit like Xatu and Slowking were using it in lower tiers.

In higher tiers I think there was a Mega Slowbro set with it.

First, Fury cutter is a bad type. It might be more interesting if there was an Ice variant or something. Also anything using X-Scissor are bad mons with nothing else available to them. Better comparisons are technician Bug Bite or Megahorn, which are moves you'd be using if you're using a physical bug move, and both compare much more favorably than X-Scissor. Plus in singles, turn 1 output typically trumps damage over time, and you need something really good to overcome that. A physical Bug move that's terrible before the third use and loses to protect isn't that.

It’s because Future Sight/Doom Desire is bugged.
If you switch after using it and had Choice Specs or had Stat boosts when it was used, it will ignore those boosts entirely.

Choice Items are fine, they allow certain Pokemon to shine that usually wouldn't, and it makes revenge killing set-up sweepers more reasonable.
Plus tricking a choice scarf onto a stallmon like Clefable is one of the most satisfying feelings in Pokemon.

That's blatantly wrong. They put way more emphasis on your prediction skills.
The reward is high, but the risk is also high because you can easily lose your momentum if you call a switch wrong.

Because having to click that move 3+ times in a row uninterrupted just to catch up to X-Scissor (not a good move to begin with) isn't good. Being able to burst matters, being able to switch moves and hit Protect matters, using a better offensive type than Bug matters.

Future Sight is fine, but off the top of my head the biggest abusers are Slowbro/Slowking which aren't in the game yet

Future Sight is great but takes planning to use, that's why you don't see it on safe copy-paste VoltTurn teams. Xatu is a good user, has Teleport and can force switches.

The only use I ever found for Fury Cutter was a win condition on a Scarf (to Baton Pass out of Jolly TTar/Scizor) Shedinja in XY/ORAS meta. Bug hits only two current SwSh OU Pokémon super-effectively, and is resisted by all the others.
