The pokemon designs were decent (not the starters though)
The story wasn't bad
The characters weren't really boring
The villain is probably the most well-written one in the entire franchise
The music was admirable
The graphics/animation is a feature you just can't bring yourself to hate

What started the downfall was the Kalos region.

He's a generic world domination villain who can't even leverage his gimmick properly to emotionally manipulate others to continue doing his bidding even when they know he has evil intentions because the message he purports to espouse is still fundamentally untouchable.
Nope. All pretense of nobility gets thrown out the window the moment N jobs, and he never manages to induce a single NPC of note to release their Pokemon---not *ONE* (1) single person important to the story has ever been swayed by Team Plasma's arguments enough to actually follow through.

That is bad writing if I've ever seen it.
