>>43598814Gen 6 is fine. You could tell that Game Freak put in *some* marginal amount of effort into making a complete Pokemon experience. While it certainly doesn't have as much soul as the gens immediately before it, the game itself looks and feels acceptable for a Pokemon experience. For a rushed 3DS game in 2014 it's basically exactly what one should have realistically expected.
Even though the models looked fine (not as good as sprites, but fine), reusing those same models in the year of our lord 2020 with no substantial improvements at all is practically unforgivable.
I look at XY and think "Hey, this game has things from previous games and expands on them" (see: PokeRadar; Triple and Rotation Battles; Mega Evolutions; new type) and "you can tell they wanted to make this at least fun to play". I look at shit like SMUSUM/SwSh and I can say neither of those things.
