2 and 3 are garbage, but 1's are kino as fuck. Giovanni/Blue, 2 show characters, an army Lieutenant, waifu bait, a ninja, a literal psychic, and a genius researcher. They all had lives outside of their gyms, which gave them real character.

Gen 2 blows. Bird and bug leaders are literal whos, Whitney is only notable because >rolltank, ghost guy is fujobait, random fighting dude, waifubait, crotchety ice guy, and whiny dragon jobber.

Gen 2 characters are contenders for the best purely due to the manga. Silver as a rival is pretty needlessly edgy but he and Gold and Crystal were all fun to follow.

Game wise, 7 wins. I’m a little sick of seeing N on everyone’s top character list, not gonna lie.

Literally all of those gym leaders are trite characters lacking any shred of depth.

dude, it was the first entry in the franchise.
"muh story" does not make a good game.
Gen 5 & 7 suffered for "muh deep feels story" instead of a cool adventure like Gens 1 & 2.
