When he gives away his dragon in BW2, he says in a roundabout way that he's not human, claiming that he's giving the dragon to Nate/Rosa because the dragon has to be with a "human that has an ideal/truth". Immediately afterwards, N says that he's still following his ideal/truth, so the reason that disqualifies him from staying with the dragon is that he's not a "human" with an ideal/truth.
