gen 8 couldve been the best gen since since sinnoh if it had a M rating
all the settings, characters, prejudices and hinted at themes are there, literally just use logical conclusions to fill in the blank

kanto and west kanto is the most mature it ever has been while places like hoenn werent, being more mature would do nothing for that gen because it would just be forced edgy content while sinnoh gen was mature but it fit just the right sort of tone in contrast with team galactic
gen 5 was sort of a mixture of trying to write a more mature storyboard but the main villian was a goofy serious guy like you would see in hoenn with cartoony antics sometimes but not others

YOU might want this, but no it would be the worst possible thing for the franchise. You cannot turn this fantastical concept full of logical inconsistencies into something serious. This is a super happy world where somehow the only major subject of concern is people making animals fight each other, because the animals love it. A world where literal ten year olds with no life experience can become the best at something. Nothing about it makes sense at beyond a baby level.
