>>43618000Gen V idle animations are still more interesting than the models, because the sprites themselves are more interesting to look at. The idles in Gen V are pretty typical for an RPG though, they move side to side or breathe, or glow or whatever.
Honestly though, Gen V got a lot of hate for the sprites being as pixellated as they were but people forgot that the DS was at the time 7 year old hardware. I was actually really impressed with the move they were making to be a modern 2D game. The overworld looked much smoother than ugly Gen IV, and the idle animations on every Pokemon was a great idea. I was stoked for the direction they were moving, and that we had actually had an animation upgrade instead of the send-outs being carried over or removed like I was expecting. If Game Freak had continued on the path they were on they easily could have reused the BW sprites for XY and polished the resolution of the overall game to eliminate lag and increase the framerate.
I still don't see the impetus for Game Freak making the move to 3D: it certainly wasn't do to fans hating on sprites because we know GF doesn't care what fans think, so it could only be to use the 3DS stereoscopic mode, which they subsequently abandoned.
Honestly, I had never heard anyone whining about 2D as outdated besides fags online, who were definitely a vocal minority. I don't think anyone was asking for a 3D Pokemon game that wasn't on consoles, and it just makes me so mad to this day that they abandoned the direction they were headed. Imagine a Pokemon game that looks as beautiful as an UbiArt game with full animations on every monster and no low res textures or graphical pop-in.
