This is far more than "just an animal"
They contain ego, possess basic human reasoning skills, foresight and hindsight. They are able to problem solve at rates far superior to any animal with a number of species able to do it superior to even humans.
All pokemon are stronger than any human, many are stronger than any human weaponry. This isnt a "pet" scenario. Pokemon are vastly superior and we lack any kind of technology or weaponry to fit the balance.
This doesnt even get into the complete collapse of the ecosystem or that any rouge Porygon line can plunge humanity into the dark ages.
