Ok, I know it's a massive longshot, but I'd like to have a civil discussion
People who like Sword and Shield, what would it take for you to not buy gen 9?

I don't want to pay for home and the fact the switch was hard coded so the newest versions can't be hacked is really making me question keeping playing, I don't have the time to autistically breed Pokemon just to have a competitive party, and even if I did, I still wouldn't have perfect IVs legendaries that are the only Pokemon worth using in competitive anyways.

I just dont find collecting 800+ mons fun, and then to not be able to get shiny charm just made me a bit mad. I don't agree with which mons got cut, I would have liked to see garchomp and walrine, but whatever, I liked it anyways. The story was ass, weak compared to some others, we had no real reason to care about a lot. The lack of animations also sucked. A kick ass animation for when piers holds his concert to save the day would have been cool. The animations and models weren't very impressive but what do I care. If Gen 9 reused models, had a (somehow) shittier story and less actual difficulty (although I didn't mention it, I breezed through the game) I probably wouldn't buy it.

Less greedy practices and a game that's more up to speed with current JRPGs. I think the Pokémon gameplay is perfectly fine, but many things could be tweeked for a better experience: At least QOL features to make EVs easier, maybe make them a core feature if you can explain them well enough, and then make it so that you can adjust the difficulty.
I think it's all a pipe dream at this point and I've come to accept that I'm not a demographic they're particularly interested in catering to, and that's fine I guess, I'll just go play other games, or fan games that try to shake things up.

Did I enjoy it: kind of, it was still fun to train a new team of pokemon but pretty much everything else about the game was the worst in the series
What would it take for me to not buy gen 9: Bad new pokemon designs is the biggest thing, but if the new pokemon still look good the other things that would discourage me from buying gen 9 would be if it runs any worse than swoosh, if the number of included pokemon drops farther, if large parts of the game still have a fixed camera angle, if there is still nothing but boring single battles for the majority of the game

Since i was 15 and played Colosseum for the first time i always thought that when pokemon reached a portable console powerful enough we'll see perfected versions of the Gamecube games, as in:
-Regular pokemon games but with Colosseum/XD/Battle Revolution battles, with pokemon being expressive during the battle, no need for amie or camp to see that.
Then came gen 6, we had great 3D models in the mainline games, but pokemon during battle just stood up until they could cough because they got hit and did dumb shit like emitting water from their forehead, i brushed it off because it was gf's first time doing 3D and focused on a problem i noticed started last heneration: Regions started to "linearize" because the story became more important than the adventure, so i also wish for:
-A complex, fun to explore region in which you can have your own adventure, not your avatar's
Then i noticed the games became way too easy, defeating important trainers in-game wasn't satisfactory anymore, and most of the older pokemon were powercrept to oblivion, so now i also wish for:
-Give us difficulty settings unlocked since the begining, i'll not die IRL because i lost during the campaign, no need to guide me or gift me super strong pokemon; also get a small team whose work is analyze tournaments and stuff so they can balance all of the pokemon accordingly (raise their stats, give them new moves or redistribute their BST, there's almost no real need to nerf since most of them are in very different leagues due to powercreep; discovering an old bro became better can be more exiting than finding a new pokemon is better in every way)
Lastly Dexit happened, so my last wish is:
-A pokemon game with all of the pokemon, enough space in the PC to store a living dex plus some aditional boxes, and return the GTS to the game we already paid for; i almost can't believe things went so bad i have to ask for this

A full region, dungeons and all, that you can actually explore with side content and shit, and a story that doesn't fucking railroad you with pointless NPC interruptions every route and town. Literally all it takes. I can forgive the shit new Pokemon designs and lack of national dex if they actually tried to give me something worthwhile to play.

I know this board likes to shit on gen 5 but I really liked how the story questioned the ethics of something inherent to the franchise.

I don't want the "highly detailed" animations from the stadium series. As full-of-personality as they were, they really bogged down the pacing of the battles, lengthening a 10-minute battle to 30 minutes. I'd prefer shorter and less flashier animations, approximately slightly faster than you'd have on Showdown, but also more detailed. The first two PMD games really nailed the style and pace of animations I'd want in a mainline pokemon game.

includes rematchable trainers having EV-trained pokemon and decent movesets. It's a step in the right direction to have dynamax limited to tournaments, I really hated how you could mega evolve or use Z moves anywhere to steamroll some random NPC you'd never encounter again.

it's another thing that /vp/ likes to shit on because they didn't like most of the facilities, but I'd atleast want the battle factory back in some way. I can understand what problems people might have with the more gimmicky shit, but this is basically pokemon showdown randbats, what's wrong with that?
>Aesthetics
Stuff that brings the world to life. NPCs having better dialogue and a daily schedule, wild-area styled encounters throughout the region, more worldbuilding shit.

I've long come to terms with the fact that a pokemon game is never going to be like this, and I have better things to do than to call gamefreak lazy for not pandering to my desires specifically, so I'm just not going to buy them anymore. That said, I do like a lot of the new pokemon, and I'm enjoying the new competitive meta, fanfic or otherwise. gamefreak is really shitty at making games though, but that's a whole other thing.

I genuinely hope we can immediately return to gen 5 standards where we had new pokemon and a shit ton of them to add that. I loved that it was only new pokemon available in the campaign and liked that they added older gen mons later. Sadly, we won't ever get to those years because of the incompetence of GF and because a large amount of fans will not want that at all.

I absolutely hated the trainwreck that was Rose and the whole story as a whole. These characters could have been written better, but they weren't.

What would truly make me not buy gen 9 is if they start to completely go further down simplifying everything for kids and because both the pokemon company rushing and because of game freak's incompetence. linear maps started in gen 5 (which was the main downside for that generation) and it didn't like it at all. everything has also become a fucking hallway too. I miss struggling to get to the end of victory road, but ever since generation 6, everything is just some shitty hallway and that's it. also give us a hard mode. That easily can make a large amount of the fans be happy.

I didn't buy SWSH - I decided this because of the cut pokemon (I knew they'd sell them back it was obvious) but also, the games just looked like the 3DS games but is slightly better HD. The new pokemon looked like rinse and repeats, there wasn't anything entirely new, they were based on creatures we've already had and they were somewhat bland and boring.

These are reasons I will likely not buy Gen 9, if we're going by the standards in which Pokemon have been in the last couple gens, I do not see Gen 9 being better in the slightest, it'll continue to fall in quality, we'll get less new pokemon and regional dex pokemon, new pokemon designs will continue to become humanoid creatures and waifu crap, gyms will continue to have the Grass/Fire/Water/Dragon combos, the games will continue to be about the characters and not the player, the story will continue to get more boring.
And there is nothing anyone can do because people who have no backbone or morals will buy straight into it cause they have no self control or standards and will continue to screech that you're not a true fan for wanting the game devs to put in some effort.
Honestly, I Pokemon has lost it's charm and it's soul and I don't see myself buying any more games in the future.

You don't even need to do some mega gimmicky shit like that facility which uses the nature to chose your mon action, you could do some simple stuff like, Tower, Factory, Rotation, Triples, Air, Inverse and sprinkle some shit along the way like make the triple facility works like the pyramid or the inverse something like the pike or the air battles like dome.

- dynamic models
- a return of many cut moves and all cut mons
- a ton of cut QoL or aesthetic features come back, as they had no reason to leave in the first place. e.g. following pokemon, ball seals, UI gadgets, VS Seeker, so many that I can't begin to really list off the top of my head
- using your own pokemon to traverse obstacles, HM-style in terms of campaign progression without the moveslot restrictions of HMs
- a compelling region to explore that isn't AIDS to grind through, (BW1) simplistic, (Gen 5+) and contains some open choice sections as well as much exploration. Best case scenario would be to move away from pseudo-2D overworld design. Furthermore, multiple regions and objectives other than just the league challenge and whatever savetheworld plot is injected haphazardly.
- methods which reduce the grind for the perfect mon, such as retaining the means to change natures and abilities (I'd want a hidden ability capsule as well) and add IVs. I would actually want the removal of all shiny luck-boosting mechanics to make something RNG-based to remain valuable, at least, but that's not a necessary point
- good battle facility and postgame

None of this is too much to ask, fuck you. They've been working on the same mechanics and the same design philosophy producing almost exactly the same game for over 20 years, this should all be a given at this point, and they're even using more powerful technology to boot.

In SM you only had to complete the Alola dex for the shiny charm, which had 99 less mons needed for completion, AND you could transfer in every Pokemon from past games. I don't know why you needed Pokemon to be cut to suddenly care about the dex when it was ironically easier to get the shiny charm before.

I didn't even like gen 7, I just consoomed and thought that SwSh could be good if they cut the dex surely it would have content to make up for it, but I was very, very, wrong. I never understood the logic behind a good mechanic or two being a regional thing. Shouldn't a region be memorable for the places you explore, the people (and pokemon) you meet, and the stuff you experience there sort of like real life? For example the unique architecture of Village Bridge and the music give it a very memorable atmosphere for a lot of people despite there not really being anything to do there. Slateport had a market, the beach, a decent long straight path for egg hatching, and some fun plot stuff with team magma/aqua in the museum. Lavender town had the pokemon tower, which despite getting other graveyards throughout the games to serve as places to stick ghost pokemon still feels unique because of the ACTUAL ghost and the unsettling dialogue some of the trainers there say. Trying to make day/night unique to Johto was probably the silliest thing they ever did and I'm glad in gen 4 they realized that was stupid, but still waiting on them to realize that limiting a battle format(triple/rotation, sky, royal, ect) to one location is a waste when they could be using it to give the main stories more variety instead of slogging through a bunch of singles battles with trainers who all have the same 3 pokemon every time something plot relevant happens.

Since this thread is trying to be civil I gotta ask. When people were made aware of the cull of pokemon and moves, there was a good deal of justifiable outcry. But it seems as if one night polarities got reversed, and it became contentious to call out the cull as a negative thing.

I'd buy that in a heartbeat. A more laid-back game focused on exploring (which mainline Pokémon stopped being long ago) and expanding your town, finding different species of Pokémon in the wild and integrating them into your town for various utilities.

I enjoyed some being gone for a while I liked the ranked meta with some mons missing and how basically everyone was on a equal playing field for a bit before home came out. But by gen 9 I dont want to regress.

I gotta say I love being able to play ranked on my big screen and customize my trainer based on the team I'm using. I know alot of people on /vp/ are scrubs that shy away from ranked on cart or even casual battles so single player is more important to them but for me beating npcs is just not the same as beating a person.

Shield let's me co-OP and battle others to my hearts content without having to stare at a tiny screen. I'm expecting gen 9 to have all mons available though and better customization options. I really.hope for a hard mode but its pokemon that's not gonna happen after gen5

For me, all it would take is probably just the ability to turn of EXP share. With it off 24/7 and a little bit of running from wild encounters, Gens VI and VII had a functioning difficulty switch that made playing the games a lot of fun. I'd buy it used so they don't get money for it unless they added back in a bunch more stuff on top of that, but that's all it'd take for me to buy the game.

It's reasonable for people to be mad at the cut when the upsides are purely based on opinion.
Once the whole "bugs in anus" thing came out, and the anti-dexers used this as a talking point, people started associating toxcicity with the group of people who care about quality, rather than associating toxcicity with driving their favorite series into the ground. Then in order to defend their case, the dexiters turned to shitflinging all of the flaws (of which there are many) of the game over and over again. It got really tiring and made them seem like manchildren.
If it had solely been trolls and consoomers that kept shilling their retarded arguments as to why the cut was a "good" thing, then the general opinion would have been neutral if not against the anti-dexers, rather than the other way around. Change in the games may not have ever been an option, but at least a message of "we deserve quality" would have been profound.
C'est la vie though. This whole debacle has opened my eyes and shown me that there's no point in arguing over literal nothings. I just wish it didnt have to cost me my favorite vidya game series.

Everytime there's a discussion on dexcut, though, that isn't a reddit or twitter echo chamber it's pretty pro-dexer through and through. Slightly better graphics, I don't even have super high standards, but the graphics and reused 3DS animations, rubs me the wrong way. I actually thought the graphics for the let's go games worked well for the pokemon universe.

Mega evolutions would be nice, but if dynamax was more than just upscaling the pokemon for a couple turns I'd accept the lack of mega evolutions more

The wild area seems boring and empty from the looks and sounds of it, I also dislike the inability to catch Pokemon at a higher level, they could've just made it difficult or do something like make it possible to miss throwing the ball at pokemon of a higher level.

Routes that you can run through the path in 5 seconds with no possible interruptions are also ridiculous. Other games likely have had similar instances but in a 2d handheld game it's much less noticeable.

I'm sure there are other things that I'd dislike if I did try playing, and probably plenty I'd enjoy. I more don't like the direction the games have taken and the constant contradictions from game freak.

Seriously, this should have gotten better over the years, not worse and then straight-up nonexistent. To add to this, at least some sort of optional content to reward exploration and encourage you to come back later on in the game.

The fact that there are only ten in SwSh, with some of them taking ten seconds to run across, is inexcusable. In addition, while they don't need to go full non-linear, having various interconnected paths makes the world feel more open.

This might be the biggest factor in why the last few generations have felt more like a theme park ride than proper adventures. The story in Pokemon games is basically just white noise, so having it shoved down my throat every ten minutes just distracts from the actual appeal of exploring and becoming the best.

By "in-depth", I mean more stuff on par with the Regis in RSE. I want to actually interact with and discover things about the world in a meaningful way. The postgame isn't that much of a dealbreaker, but the Pokemon games that I enjoy the most all have something to do with the high level team you've raised up.

I just want a world inhabited by people who can express a thought that doesn't involve Pokemon.

You'll notice that list consists of stuff that was in Gens 1-4, just with my expectations adjusted given that we're on a console. Seriously, I don't even mind the Dex cut given that a lot of my favorite ROM hacks have ~3-400 Pokemon. I just want them to show some level of effort here. Ultimately what turned me off from SwSh (and Gens 6+7) is how barebones they are.

Also difficulty settings would be nice, but I wouldn't whine if they weren't there.

It would have to be an RPG again. I didnt buy gen 8 but I've seen a lot of gameplay, and it feels like the games are designed to prioritize the postgame (pvp) while the story mode feels like it was developed as some mandatory chore to get through as fast and easily as possible.

I want customization as you play, not as something to do postgame via mints and battle tower points. I want you to be able to control EVs as you play and have the means to change abilities and customize your pokemon during the campaign, and have boss battles that provide competent challenges. No need for smogon tier AI but I want periodic challenges that require some team variety. I know none of this will happen so I just replay old games

Everyone is correct when they say it's a total piece of shit but I like doing exploit shiny dens with the bros in /srg/ and discord trannies from r/shinyraids and nothing else.
