Tpbp, people don’t understand how much of a passion project BOTW was to Nintendo. It was supposed to be Wii U’s last big hurrah that was in development since even before the Wii U was released. Nintendo delayed it 3 months just so it could be on the Switch too as another huge release.

And the only other franchise that pulls off the open world to a similar degree is Xenoblade and that’s because Monolith have been developing those types of games since their inception. It’s not going to happen unless GF ask for help.

Pokemon will never be BOTW unfortunately. Soul peaked in gen 2, but 3 had just as much. Its not the same variety of soul you find in this game though.

Game Freak is like these bands that keep producing albums and tour only for the money, people line up to have autographs signed but you can see in their eyes they're dead inside and only drugs keep them running.
Specially these bands that found success in one ballad the company asked them to record as a filler and people only want that specific song to be played in their concerts.
Don't expect any soulful game from them ever. They keep making them only because they like money, not because they want to make something meaningful at the same time.

Seeing the wild area made me believe that a full open world is something they are hoping to incorporate in future games but knowing GF, we probably aren’t going to be going in that direction anytime soon.

The wild area was just them blatantly (and lazily) riding the BOTW open world meme. It's ironic because last gen, they already rode Yokai Watch's coattails by implementing the Z move dances. So expect them to follow the next trend they think will be profitable next gen.

Keep in mind the rest of the market will keep on improving, so don't expect pokemon to be getting an award for something that doesn't involve sales during those years (or even after them).

Look, I'm as unhappy and disappointed with Sword/Shield as any other true fan, but BotW is really boring and unimpressive. If you want to hold Pokemon up to the gold standard of another Nintendo game try an actually good one like Luigi's Mansion 3.

They obviously didn't put on every single person at Nintendo. They took like half of Monolith Soft because of their HD open world experience with Xenoblade X, but they left Monolith Soft with enough people to work on Xenoblade 2. And even then, it's not like the people they had help out exclusively worked on Breath of the Wild. People can contribute to multiple projects at once. Aonuma even said that Nintendo EPD, the division within Nintendo that works on Mario and Zelda games, has a rotating staff, letting them work on various different Zelda games. They can then use things they learn while working on some games and apply them to other games. But there are numerous divisions and studios under Nintendo Co. Ltd. that did not contribute to the game. It was a huge project for sure, but Nintendo definitely didn't put all their eggs in one basket.

They'll ditch the concept of the Wild Area intentionally next gen and probably next game. It wouldn't at all surprise me if they ditched overworld models of Pokemon wandering too to return to invisible/random encounter method (again for the sake of memorableness).

No, the Wild Area was the open world concept that fans have been asking for that they felt like was the next stage for Pokémon games which is what they say in so many interviews.

And just about every first party Nintendo title on the Switch for their franchises have been open world if they weren’t multiplayer games

Nintendo employs a lot of people, and I don't think it would be very efficient or beneficial to the game to have EVERY person working on that one game. I'm just saying they put all they could into it with allowing dev time and making sure they were staffed correctly. A company the size of Nintendo would never put all their eggs in one basket, you're right there. But it was the main focus at the time for sure.
