When I was in middle school, I was such a people-pleasing cuck that I would help my friends complete their Pokedex. They would give me their cartridges, then I would waste hours of my time breeding & transferring Pokemon over. And this was gen 3, so I had to trade them in, one by one. If a Pokemon was "too valuable" for them to keep (legendaries, events/"mythicals", Pokemon that need items to evolve, Pokemon that evolve at high levels, etc.), I would then trade those back to my own game, adding more time onto this task. I was a stupid kid, I should've been using that time to do homework or study.
While doing this for one friend, I somehow lost his Exp. Share. When he told me about this, I apologized to him like a beta, and I traded him my own Exp. Share. Fucking hell, man. I suppose I technically had something to "gain", as I was able to obtain Pokemon that isn't available in my game (I had Ruby, my friends had Sapphire, Fire Red, and Leaf Green). Of course, even that becomes a moot point fairly quick, as I still played Pokemon into later generations, and eventually every gen 1-3 Pokemon became easily obtainable with minimal trading.
