I was a huge fan of Gens 1-3 (not just the campaigns, but also loved playing on NetBattle for gen 3), hated DP so much that I didn't even play past the first Gym, then around university met a normie friend who wanted to play SoulSilver so that got me back interested in the series again, then I was absolutely astounded by how fresh Black felt, followed by Black 2 being a sequel (animated trailer is still kino). Spent at least 500+ hours on those games, and I even got interested in playing VGC because of the format and how accessible international challenges were (the high point of my VGC "career" would be beating the Canadian National Champion in a live tournament at the time).
So yeah, I love it. Amazing single-player campaign, endless content to discover in those games (like even recently I found out there were things I missed in those games, like bringing Victini in BW2 to the Liberty Garden for a cutscene), and between Gen 5 and Gen 3 I've never been more hooked on the multiplayer battles. All the gens after just feel so shallow in comparison.
