What is exactly the reason they got rid of mega evolutions? If they wanted to make changes, they could have done so using the already established mechanic, instead we have another gimmick that is less interesting and will fade into obscurity after Galar

My guesses are they wanted to stop with their awful attempts at ‘lore’ for Mega Evolution (this one way less than the following two), cutting it also meant they wouldn’t have to deal with designing more Mega forms and it’s probably easier to advertise a brand new shiny gimmick in Gen 8 (Dynamaxing) then selling stuff like Megas and Z-moves again.

That's completely different and you know it. Every 3D Mario game is its own thing. Mainline Pokemon is all one series with the exact same gameplay mechanics.

Furthermore, Mario can be anything as long it's fun, there's no standard for what a Mario game has to be.

There I just improved the game without shitting it up with a retarded power creeping gimmick with tacky designs. And all of this would take 5 minutes to do instead of having to work on models and animations.
