They should incorporate it into breeding.
Have special incenses that can allow you to breed hybrid species with the right parents, just like some animals in real life.

This would actually be pretty cool but I don't think they'd ever do it because it'd blur the identities between Pokemon and raise a lot of questions.

i'd want them to do it specifically with a set of purpose-built new mons (a bit like the Gen 8 fossils), rather than another throwaway "gen-defining" gimmick like Megas / Z-Moves / Big Pokémon
