On the contrary. This was when Pokémon really jumped the shark in terms of lore. It was already getting pretty bad in Gen 3 but 4 was the drop that made the cup overflow with the retarded creation deity and other dimension bullshit.

Sinnoh is not a well designed region. It lacks loops to make the backtracking it demands more interesting. Hoenn is much better because it has such well thought out connections as Rusturf Tunnel or Meteor Falls, among others. And Hoenn has better dungeons, too.

No. HGSS is alright, but Platinum is more challenging.

Except Sinnoh characters had depth. Take Cyrus for instance. Cyrus was a best villain because he actually had a understandable goal and motive. He wasn't some retard like Archie, Maxie and Rose, however he wasn't some one note evil villain like Giovanni and Ghetsis.

Gen 4 took Kanto pokemon and gave them better evolutions. Sinnoh also had the best starter lineup and pokemon like Lucario, Garchomp, Weavile and more.

What are you talking about? Did you miss the whole route 212 - 214? Also, Mt. Coronet was more well thought out then Rusturf Tunnel or Meteor Falls.

Gen 4 is most likely my favorite gen, but Pearl and Diamond were pretty bad in comparison with Platinum.
Platinum really put gen 4 on the top.
I played Diamond on release, almost completed the dex (because I had no one to trade with) and Platinum a couple years ago on my pc.

Interviewer's note: In short he means that they didn't include the BF because only a very small part of the players would have fully appreciated and made use of this feature; nowadays players get bored and frustrated more easily and they aren't interested in things that are so demanding/challenging. -Masuda

Is the music being orchestral really why tho? I agree, the new shit blends together where as old pokemon music had sorta a front theme that defines the tune and a back theme that plays in the background and adds to it. It had proper layers, where as a lot of new shit lacks and definition like that, but like, is that why?

As much as I love DPPt, the Pokedex is a bit lackluster, the story was more or less a worse version of RSE, and the characters really aren't that fantastic. Rowen and Cynthia are pretty memorable but I feel like Inova wins in the Pokedex, characters, and story category. Sinnoh will always have the best lore though, no region has felt as mysterious since.

The only "good" remakes were the only ones that were necessary, FR/LG and HG/SS.
Those region's games were cut off from the "nu" age of the franchise solely because of hardware limitations, and updating them felt worthy of a remake. OR/AS and any further remakes are unnecessary because the DS allows internet app connectivity to future-proof collections, and everything is available somewhere to be ported forward. As a result of being unnecessary, OR/AS and LGPE felt like they had to try to sell themselves apart from just being a good update of the source game and ended up being dogshit in comparison to the amazing core gameplay updates that Kanto/Johto got.
Only zoomers or resell niggers want remakes because they don't own their original copy or know how to emulate.

Eh, I think that's mostly nostalgia honestly. There are some stinkers, but some of the new songs are bangers just as much as the oldie goldies. The ultra necrozma or lusamine themes, or the gen 8 gym theme are on par with the good gen 1-4 songs. I did notice that the ambient songs tend to receive less attention than the battle themes, compared to the older games.

Moving anything up from gen 4 is a chore at this point, and would be pretty costly if you're missing even one console. On the other hand, there isn't much need in moving anything forward because if it's in SwSh, it's available, if not, there's no point in moving forward because it's unusable.

Even though Pokemon had arcs in previous series, this was the first where every Pokemon on Ash's team had some sort of development and story arch. Having Ash work with Pokemon as they tried to learn a new move for multiple episodes felt more realistic than it automatically learning it on level up. Same with Dawn and her contest combos. There were also a fair amount of enjoyable fillers. I think one of the biggest benefits it had going was Ash was still Ash. It still felt like a progression from the original series, and like he'd matured a bit from the Hoenn saga. Then BW came along and completely reset Ash.

My biggest complaint would be pacing. I remember around a year between getting the 6th and 7th badges.

no other gen has that, so combined gen 4 = peak

the closest would be gen 3, but
HGSS + Platinum > Emerald + FRLG

With an orchestra or high quality VSTs, the attacks can be a bit rounded compared to, let's just say, DPPt samples. I've noticed a trend with making remixes that can always be an issue. Whereas the VSTs may be high in quality, they sometimes lack the power of more compressed samples, so songs that originally worked will not work without adding in another harmonic part.

Yeah sure. It's literally incomplete and unfinished as a game. At least Sun and Moon has thought put behing the setting and pokemon (and it's actually fun too besides the cutscenes), Kalos is literally a theme park region you would probably find in a fan game.

It's unfinished because it was their first 3D game, but if you read Masuda's blog at the time you could see that it was a game they felt very passionate and excited about. With SM they had no excuses and yet it was just as unfinished, with cut content and even smaller, it was an incredibly rushed game made to sell for the anniversary.

Lumiose alone disproves this. The theme park region is Alola, it's literally treated as a vacation spot for tourists, you can't get any more theme park than that.

I'm a filthy genwunner who was there for ever moment in Pokemon history and I have to agree that at least Platinum was the peak of the Pokemon franchise. D/P lacked a lot of polish, but they really turned things around from the calamitous dark age that was gen 3.

Only among actual Hoennbabies. Gen 3 almost killed the series. It eventually found its footing towards the end of its life, but it was still a major misstep.

Gen 3 was a turning point in the series it seems. It lost some old fans that either grew up and away from pokemon, and it lost fans that were pissed off about the lack of transferability with gen 2.

But, it gained a massive following of new fans. Most people born in the mid to early 90's had R/S/E as their first pokemon game and they love it.

Sapphire wasn't even my first Pokemon game. Mine was Diamond. But i can say that gen iii is special to a lot of people for sure. And for good reason. The region is fun and unique (too much water lol). The anime was still good at the time, and the Colosseum and XD were kino. Lots to love as well.

I wish they still had the schwang to do a huge impactful gameplay change like the P/S split. It feels like the mega/zmove/dynamax gimmicks have replaced this kind of evolution, and these obviously feel a lot more tacked-on than changes that would impact the battle gameplay fundamentals.

I was really excited for 5 and even convinced all my non pokemon fan friends to get it but it was a flop, worst game in terms of pokemon designs and even in terms of gameplay, it just felt like following a straight line through ufly big modern cities and the thing that made pokemon good was basically being in the wild in these small towns catching creatures.
