Gamefreak makes a game that's not only better than all past Pokemon games, but better than all past games ever made since the concept of "playing" was invented.
But it can only be bought on the E-Shop and in order to even access it, you need to redeem a code that you get from completing the Pokedex in the previous game (each code can only be redeemed once).
The game turns out to be a financial failure because of all of the hoops you have to jump through just to play it, so Gamefreak decides that people don't want to play good games and start deliberately making every game afterwards as bad as possible.
