If you're after ultimate trainers the more apt comparison is RED or Steven. A champion is a champion, an E4 member is an E4 member, and arguing on the code is just pathetic.

Fair enough. My bringing up the code was to illustrate how meaningless the distinction between them is, though. Literally the only difference is the variable of their 'trainer name' in the code.

Because double battles are a gimmick.
There can be a gym leader or a couple of random NPC's who do doubles, but not a serious battle.

I think an E4 member eventually will. It's a gimmick but we know it's not below Gym Leaders and it could be interesting to see if they make it actually difficult/fun.

Champion battles feel too important to add different modes to it. Maybe in rematches?
