Then it comes back, several dozen episodes later, evolved with an enormous power boost, already able to use Z-Moves, and fight on par with Guzzlord, Tapu Koko, and Kukui’s Lucario
Meltan randomly broke out a box underwater, conveniently ended up where Ash was, and became best buds with Rowlet. Read that again, Meltan didn’t join Ash because it wanted to, it did because it wanted to be with Rowlet. Meltan didn’t listen to Ash the two times he used it prior to evolving, and he neglected to address this or train Meltan prior to the League. Meltan evolved because the other Meltan came and fused with it, and immediately rose to a powerhouse that could overwhelm Gladion’s Silvally.
And now neither Pokémon are in Ash’s possession anymore. They were temporary powerboosts/marketing to help Ash in his battles and nothing more.
