The normal type fits them because they all look like a regular bird from real life.
The flying type was always supposed to be a secondary type for the most part.

That's stupid. Not only do some benefit from the Normal type and fit as a Normal type, removing all of them completely just gives you the exact same problem. Instead of too many Normal/Flying with barely any mono-Flying types, now you have no Normal/Flying with too many mono-Flying types.

Are you fucking retarded? Flying has 3 pure Flying-types and 26 Normal/Flying types. Why the fuck is that a thing? And no shit, of course a lot of Pokemon benefit from having another type, lets just give all of the monotype Pokemon Normal then so they have a Ghost immunity.

It makes 0 sense to have 3 Flying-types and 26 Normal/Flying, spread it out a little. Keep Doduo, Farfetch'd, Rufflet and Taillow lines as Normal/Flying and make the rest pure-Flying.

tried this once, went on Showdown, went to STAB-mons (variant format where pokemon can use all moves of their type) and made a team with a Tornadus with Roost. It turned into a Normal type, was immune to Spirit Shackle and everything.

It's not a deflection, you just can't read. The OP post is claiming that ALL the Normal/Flying birds should become Flying which is a fucking stupid thing to do and your very own post disagrees with said claim. Your comment about benefiting from other types is also a silly exaggeration on the claim that some benefit from it for the sake of making the argument look stupid.
I agree with Dodrio, Farfetch'd and Swellow lines but Rufflet line staying Normal is dumb, the line should be Fighting/Flying to reflect on their combative nature and better act as a counterpart with the Dark/Flying Vullaby line. Chatot is also the most "Normal" type of all the birds (sound Pokemon, gimmick Pokemon, Boomburst user) so it's a much better fit.

I'd rather not. Ghost immunity and return/double-edge/quick attack/boomburst STAB is something I like about the regional birds. I think pure flying (or primary flying) could be cool if they made more cloud/wind/wheather-themed mons (birdmons or not), but they cornered themselves too much into their own "flying is a secondary type" meme to back out now.

They should make braviary fighting/fyling though.

I’d keep all the basic birds as normal/flying for the same reason basic mammals are normal. The only ones I’d have as pure flying are:
>Doduo just for the irony of it not being able to fly
>Chatot because it’s a musical note not a bird
>Swablu because it’s clouds
>maybe Pikipek line because they are more exotic

The whole point of Noctowl in Gen2 was to be a Ghost hunter. So Normal fits.

Chatot (I don't know why I forgot it) should stay Normal to stab Sound moves.
