Gamefreak sees it as just a feature that they can rotate in and out for marketing purposes. The director doesn't care about fan favorite features. They cut lots of people's favorite pokemon from the game because the franchise has reached peak soulless corporate entity. After all, rosterfaggotry is marketable as proven by smash.

I recently played LGPE and I gotta say following Pokémon gets super annoying real fast. I eventually put my mons in their balls so I wouldn't have to accidentally interact with them when trying to pick up items or see them popping up and disappearing again randomly when there isn't enough space

The two games were built on separate codebases. Followers were probably shoved in LGPE as an extension of overworld spawns which themselves were barely shoved into SwShit when Game Freak only then realized fans responded positively to it.

If it doesn't show up in Gen 9 or even the next round of inter-gen remakes they will be clinically retarded.

honestly? it's pretty difficult to implement in 3d games due to the presence of extremely big pokémon. It worked with sprites, but i just can't see the player walking with rayquaza or wailord beside them. Perhaps they could make said pokémon not follow you, except for special occasions? but that would ruin it for many kids, making them feel like their bros were left
