What's the perfect Elite 4?
Every E4 trainer tries to train a pokemon that epitomizes an aspect of battling. A Dragon master is obvious, since they epitomize raw power and resistance, and a Steel type trainer also makes sense, what with Steel being the kings of pure defense (different from resistance).
Question is, what are the other types that epitomize pokemon?

Fairy and Ghost I guess.

Bug, Ice, Rock, Ground, Normal, Fighting, Poison, Electric and flying are too mediocre to be in an E4

Psychic and dark could work too I guess.

Water, Fire and Grass are you starter's type, so I don't think they should be in the E4.

I'd say a weather Elite four with Hail and Sun being doubles and the two others being Singles.
But to go with your theme an Electric or Flying specialist to go with Speed because they are the fastest types on average and Poison or Dark for the statuses with Pranksters and Hazards.

2nd E4 member: Electric. Prioritizes speed to finish off your Pokémon that got softened up by the last guy. More of a nuisance than anything, but he also sets up rain and spams thunder.

3rd E4 member: Steel. Full defense and sand, and stall to go with it. The most obnoxious thing about this guy is you can’t toxic his shit, and he packs plenty of earthquakes and rock slides in case you decide to try anyways with Salazzle. Always leads with the bulkiest skarmory in the world.

4th E4 member.
Now I know a lot of people are going to say dragon, but I think that’s overused. Instead, I’m going to say a Normal type E4 member focused on running a baton pass team. The theme of his team is the most important aspect of Pokémon, team synergy aka “teamwork”.

Champion: No type specialization. Just uses a competitive team, properly EV trained and everything. Ace is a Regional Variant of a Tauros

The E4 should be themed as opposed to having a type.
It's the final challenge of the game, you shouldn't be able to just pick one Pokemon with a type advantage and sweep their team.
>1st member
Team that is designed around weather. Fights you 4 times with a team of 3 Pokemon for each weather condition.
>2nd member
Team is designed around pure raw force. Lots of recoil moves and high damage attacks.
>3rd member
Team is all about status conditions. Will use paralyze on your fast Pokemon, burn on physical attackers, etc...
>4th member
All about status boosts. Has baton pass on all of his Pokemon.
>Champion
No theme. Just a team of the most powerful non legendary Pokemon in the game. Has some elements from each of his E4.
There is a guy outside the E4 who tells you what each team's theme is and give tips on how to deal with them (eg. says roar is good to remove the stat boosts of the baton pass guy). You're supposed to fail at this E4 at least once but it is set up to be possible with any team without being too easy.
This won't happen though because Pokemon needs to be so easy even my dog can beat it without fainting once.

The traditional "beginner" types being Normal, Fire, Water, Grass, Bug and arguably Electric, anything that isn't those is fine. Unless you want to subvert expectations I guess.
It's nice when the E4 has some kind of global dynamic, like Unova had with Fighting > Dark > Ghost > Psychic > Fighting, stuff like that.
It's also cool when the members aren't bland archetypes. Alola did it pretty well with Kahili being high-strung to contrast with how calm or dreamy Flying specialists can be, and Molayne being the polar opposite of what you'd usually expect from a Steel-type expert.

Dragon is overdone, IMO. If you're looking for a Elite 4 team based around types, I'd go with:

Though ideally, teams based around playstyles. Weather, status conditions, stall, hyper offense, status boosting/lowering, etc.

I know this shit actually happened in one of the later games but I stopped playing after pearl/platinum.

A "weather" based elite four really appeals to me.
