XY sucked but it had great gyms. Rock gym, fighting gym, grass gym, fairy gym, and psychic gym were all fun.

Yes, that's how gyms work. The trainers are there to punish you for not doing the puzzle correctly.

imagine a gym where the puzzle is a straight line of around 20 trainers you have to fight in a row (you can heal between fights tho)
