How could they change the games to encourage normal players to make diverse teams with their weaknesses covered instead of just over-leveling their starter like people have been doing since the 90s?

I haven't cared about diverse, balanced teams in main game campaigns for years. I haven't actually kept my starter on my team all the way through nearly as long. Part of the appeal of Pokemon is being able to play through with the team you chose, and for a lot of normalfags, that's overleveled starter + HM slave + box legend + 3 filler slots

Starters really need a BST nerf. Most starters having a 530 BST is way too good.

I understand that they have to make it powerful because they have to make them likeable, but is a 450-480 BST too much to ask?

Yes. Because Most starters have a shit ability in Torrent, Overgrow and Blaze at the start and stats are the only way to make them strong or make them have a deep movepool. Unless they provide a useful Ability to all of them, the starters will not be liked as much.
