I'm fine with what we got, but I really like that beta Groudon. It's so bizarre looking and feels a bit more organic, which I think makes it feel a bit more like the gen 1 and 2 legendaries. More like a legendary animal rather than some sort of god. Thematically it also makes me think much more of a salamander with its patterns and body shapes, which would work really well as a fire legendary.

But they got cut because they didn't match with what Game Freak wanted to do, they kept them 20 years to try and fix them (leafeon was supposed to be in Gen II and got cut, re-used for Gen IV) before revealing them as betas, essentially admitting they couldn't make them fit the universe they were going for. I'd rather they held to an ethos than just shoving a design in because they made it in the early days.
