I'm torn, a nu-Kris might be neat, but there's something about her showing up in Masters completely unaltered that would never have happened. Fans have ultimately modded her back in to so many games it doesn't really matter now.

Actually, if you look at Gold's Crystal artwork, it looks like a mix between him in GS and him in HGSS, so their artstyle was already shifting then. As for Lyra, I just consider her separate at this point.

Everything about their game worked better with Dawn. It didn't help that his first design was shit. His Platinum one was so good though, it became the standard, but 'lol 3rd version' so hardly anyone noticed. Poor guy never stood a chance.

That said, I'd say Victor is well up there.

No Lyra is actually terrible and the worst female protagonist design.
I'm not the biggest Kris fan, but she pulls off the sporty late-90s anime look well enough. Lyra is just an ugly overalls wearing girl with a ridiculous hat. It's a shame though because when she is drawn in any other outfit she looks 100x better.

If I was designing her just for myself I'd remove the overall and give her denim shorts with a red button down top. Her hair and socks are fine as is.
Like I said though her design is so much better without the hat it isn't even funny.
