>>43715451>But they also just could have done that anywaysThat's true. All of my issues could be fixed and they could still add Kanto anyway, it's not impossible to have a competent Elite Four and include Kanto at the same time.
I was just arguing that, by including Kanto, the designers insisted on reducing the levels of the Elite Four and that I would have rather had a normal Elite Four + Pokémon distribution than Kanto, but your point is why not both?
>All the regions could be in different universes for all we knowI understand that going back to Kanto is the best way to feel like the world is tied, and it made the most sense because it literally borders Kanto, but I think the future games still make acklowledge the exitence of previous regions. In Sinnoh, they mention that contests originated in Hoenn and you have Jasmine from Johto who competes in them. Maybe more effort could be made to link the regions though.
I remember that there was a fake leak for HGSS where apparently the player could go to Hoenn to catch Rayquaza or something, but it was limited to just the Sky Pillar and you couldn't explore the whole region. Obviously this isn't the same as a full region, but it's something that the future games could do easily to tie the regions more. They deliberately make all the regions after Kanto and Johto not border each other so that it explains why they don't revisit regions, but that can be easily fixed by just using a boat to travel around like in FRLG and the Sevii Islands.
>This attitude of "well it didn't work once so it'll never work" is a bit sillyI suppose it's just that Kanto in GSC really didn't really interest me much. There's a popular fan demand for an MMORPG or just a regular game where you travel through all regions, but that doesn't surprise me either.
But I admit that revisiting Kanto or some other region could be made exciting even for myself and that, like you said, they could try it again.
