>>43713895>no Gen has a better story nor a better evil teamI'd argue Gen 1 and 2's story is best because it's so simple, it's just an adventure with almost no strings attached. The actions of Team Rocket rarely if ever dictate your actions as the player. In the grand scheme yes, you're "forced" to deal with them, but the story of the games don't hinge on you beating them. Gen 3 changed this by making you the one true hero, literally putting the fate of the world in your hands by having you and you alone be the only person who can go to the Cave of Origin, the Sky Pillar, etc. Your quest to become the champion has officially been usurped by your quest to save the world. Pokemon doesn't do well when the story is complicated. The simpler the better. It's why I like 90% of SwSh's story, overall it's pretty simple and carefree, which is where Pokemon shines. If the absurdly stupid curveball at the end didn't happen I think people would appreciate it a lot more for its simplicity. In this regard Gen 5, specifically BW, has one of the worst stories in the series because it's so utterly convoluted. The actions and motivations of Team Plasma make zero sense within the confines of the logic of the Pokemon world. If people have fond memories of Ghetsis and the story in general it's because it does the opposite of SwSh, becoming more simple and (hurr hurr) black and white by the end of the game. Ghetsis just being a douche is a lot more enjoyable than the idea of a group of people LARPing as knights traveling around the region trying to convince a population that has coexisted with Pokemon for centuries that owning Pokemon is actually a bad thing and that they should just give their Pokemon up. BW2 benefits from playing it straight from the start, though it's not totally free of dumb bullshit. I'm looking at you, Marlon.
