Loved them. They tried something 180 degrees different than they ever had in the past, and the goal was to make them nightmarish, geiger-esque abominations from another dimension, at which they largely succeeded. Wish they were back in SwSh and would love more in the future.

They're pokemon SCPs. I remember people thought they were disguising themselves as characters (like Lillie being Nihilego, Lusamije being Pheromosa) but that idea was thrown out the window pretty early

Cool idea. The execution was a let down. They were way too easy to find and capture in original SM, and giving you multiples killed the charm. They tried to address some of this in USUM.

I wish they'd done more with them. I remember there was a series of pictures of Ultra Beasts where they were portrayed as like UMA's and I thought it was really neat and there was some interesting stuff that could have been done with them.

The idea of freaky ailens to just get minmaxed pokemon was a let down. Imagine how crazy the gimmicks could've been like a pokemon with an insane attack stat but every attacking move it learns has an activation requirement

Only Kartan, Stakataka, Poipole/Nagadanel, and Guzzlord even looked like pokemon. Plus they're another symptom of Legendary Bloat (yes I know they're technically not legendary thats not what I mean.) In that it's yet more designs locked behind post-game that can't be used in-story.

a sick ass idea that they shouldve done more with. instead of some boring diet moxie type shit, their abilities shouldve really fucked with the game to sell that alien pokemon type shit. couldve been something like status effects work differently on them, or incoming buffs/ debuffs are reversed, or type effectiveness reversed. wouldve made the idea way cooler
