Everyone in the game is trying to find their place. Hop, your rival is wanting to be the best, and be as good as his brother. Marnie wants to make her brother proud, Sonia wants to be a professor, and Hop eventually decides to study.

Everyone looks up to those with vocation, like Leon and Rose.

Rose wants to help the world, passionately so, and has the strongest vocation. All the gym leaders each have their own vocation, and Nessa herself struggles with modelling + plus gym leader work.

Each of the starters are based on vocations. Rillaboom - Drummer, Cinderace - Footballer, and Intelleon - Secret agent.

Why do you say Change for Alola? Just the protagonist moving there and getting used to things?
I think the deeper theme is Alienage since it not only accounts for that protagonist move-in but touches on a lot of what goes down in Alola like the Aether Foundation, Alolan formes, and the UBs/cover legendaries.
And Mohn alienating his family.

I wanted to find a word that means 'to be one with nature', which encompasses all the ideas, conflicts of Alola, and how they are in the past with tradition yet at harmony.

Yeah I was gonna say Loss or Alienation as well. But I think the idea of change was all important to everybody, or was a consistent theme. there was Alolan forms of old pokemon

theres many ways to look at alola, and perhaps the truth is, Alola doesnt have 1 central theme, but multiple thematif motifs.

I know that they said prior to release that the theme is supposed to be "life". I don't really see it on a bigger scale other than all the different vegetation and species and stuff like that.

I like that a lot. The dynamax reference is obvious, but you also have Sonia who takes over as the new professor, Hop who goes through a lot of development, Not to mention Bede and Team Yell. But also a very important aspect is evil team’s motivation. Rose and Macro Cosmos want to use Eternatus so Galar can grow without worry of natural resource depletion (or something like that I guess, SWSH’s story execution was dog shit).

These two hit close on what the game touched upon.
With multiple competitors to the gym challenge, raving mad fans causing disrupt out of sheer loyalty and devotion, a whole region in love with their undefeated champion, and a chairman who would reach desperate ends to fulfil his role.

its about idols, and the relationships idols and their fans have. It something close, it also has to do a lot with entertainment, or pleasing people. the galar starters are all about entertainment.

perhaps about being a celebrity, or celebrity worship. or how idolisation is flawed and people are imperfect. (i.e marnie not being able to smile for the camera, or chairman rose unable to handle slow progress)

I think it's def adulation, nearly every character has that factor as part of their personality. Hop goes unsaid with his worship of Leon. Bede wanting Rose's approval but finding himself fulfilled instead by the praise of the audience. Oleana doing something crazy due to her worship of Rose (and apparently the Macro Cosmos people that follow her are also doing it out of adulation for herself), the entire plot line with Sordward and Shielbert coming from the fact they don't want to have the dogs overtake their adoration, etc.

It's both adulation in the sense of celebrity/champion status and in the sense of caring for someone or wanting to please them.
