Fo example, Pidgeot is a very balanced Normal/Flying that is easy to use. Meanwhile, Fearow is a more risky Normal/Flying sweeper, with low defenses and high attack and speed.
And then there's Dodrio, which is also a Normal/Flying sweeper with low defenses, and high attack and speed. Only its Attack and Speed are higher than Fearow's. In fact, there stats are almost copy-pasted with Dodrio just getting more. The only advantages Fearow gets over Dodrio is a whopping one (1) extra point in its special stats, and 5 extra HP. This applies to their movepools too, both are similar with keys like Drill Peck belonging to both, but Dodrio getting some other extra tools. I guess Fearow has Mirror Move?
It's not about competitive, it's about the fact that both Pokemon are very similar and fill similar roles, but one is just straight up objectively better.
