The problem with retconning many of the Mega Evolutions to be just regular evolutions is that they are too good as-is to be carrying around held items, like Life Orbs or Choice items.

The only way that could be done is if the stat increase is reduced overall, or the distribution is intentionally unoptimized from their current form.

Lucario is the first 4 syllables of orichalcum (a gold/copper alloy) backwards.
So its evolved form should also be a gold alloy. Maybe electrum (a gold/silver alloy), since Lucario is an Anubis and the tip of the great pyramid is electrum. So, Muratoku.

Just give this to the Pokemon that actually deserved Megas to be viable. Beedrill, Banette, Lopunny, Mawile, Glalie, Steelix, Ampharos etc. Pokemon like Salamence and Metagross really don't need theirs to be at least decent
