This is probably a really bad place to ask but, do you think Galarian Darmanitan should have been quick banned or should there have been a suspect test first?

That thing would've ripped OU to shreds. It forces you into "switch and/or die" situations. 95 speed is solid in Galardex OU. Here are two examples of how stupid this thing is:

>252 Atk Choice Band Gorilla Tactics Darmanitan-Galar Icicle Crash vs. 252 HP / 252+ Def Hippowdon in Sand: 422-500 (100.4 - 119%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Everything faster than it gets nuked on the switch (even by resisted hits) and it 2HKOs anything that takes neutral damage from Icicle Crash or Flare Blitz and its U-Turns frequently do 30-60% to most of the (largely bug-resistant) tier.

It and Dracovish should have been quickbanned. In both cases there's very little that can reliably tank both moves, meaning both mons chunk something they can reliably beat.
In natdex, G-Darm is strong but not overpowered, because its frailty becomes easier to exploit. But Dracovish is broken, broken shit.

in Galar OU the quick ban made 100% sense, the lack of options due to the dex cut made certain mons much stronger, you can check NatDexOU and galar darm is basicily the same has regular darm in terms of roles, since there is more options to deal with galar darm he is alot less OP.

you forgot the bold nature but it doesnt really matter if you have a focus blast chance of getting bodied on the switch
darm also has to be below 50% HP for gyara to kill with waterfall if it does get the 30% chance to survive

the entire point of band is surprise factor, if you fail to delete gyarados darm is basically crippled. when i ran band I used adamant because you absolutely had to delete something at all costs, even if you risked losing darm
also, baneful bunker toxapex is great against darm, especially after dynamax ban

Toxapex was the most predictable darmanitan check ever. I just always used earthquake whenever they had a toxapex.

Do you remember the Smogon discussion leading up to the quickban? There was almost nobody in favor of keeping Darmanitan around, the bigger point of contention was banning Darm himself vs banning Gorilla Tactics. Smogon is already struggling to fit in all the needed tests between DLC releases, so wasting even more time on a test where everyone knows the answer in advance would have been ridiculous. The quickban was absolutely deserved.

I made reqs with defensive Gyarados alongside Toxapex, with Gyarados running Thunder Wave. In the dynamax meta very few players used U-Turn, because they had Dynamax to break the choice lock if they wanted. Gyarados eats everything except banded Icicle Crash while also providing a second checks to Dracovish. T-Wave crippled everything including Clefable, and Power Whip murdered toad switch ins.

Unfortunately, it's their policy to ban the Pokemon rather than the ability, unless the ability is clearly the problem like with Arena Trap.
In this case it's really dumb because Darm is the only thing that can have Gorilla Tactics so there is objectively less being lost by banning GT instead.
