Have you ever heard of the term HM slave?
Even as a kid, I would put HMs onto some slave for moves like Cut and Rock Smash, and only used moves like Surf on the Water type member of my team.
There is no “sacrifice” since there is no punishment for teaching HMs to some fodder Pokemon you keep inside the PC.
You people act like HMs were some well thought out sacrificing mechanic, even though you had an endless supply of shitmons you can use instead of your actual party members, and that “oh what if you encounter this trainer while exploring this cave”, like you are ever going to need more than 1 pokemon and a few hyper potions to beat any trainer with a fully evolved Pokemon.
They completely failed at your own made up purpose for existing, and you know what?
Why would “sacrificing moves” be a good mechanic? Because it has sacrificing?
Bull-fucking-shit. Who thinks “Wow! This game wants me to leave behind my power weapon or my primary, so that I have to open up this door with a pistol that does 0.01% damage to enemies! What a great and fun mechanic!”
If you wanted that “sacrifice” mechanic, there should be a better alternative that restricting your team composition just to open up a locked door, while also just letting people catch an endless amount of people that know a lot of HMs.
