I've never asked for Wigglytuff to be given special treatment. But to not exist in the game entirely is a different story.
Gamefreak has always only cared about popular Pokemon and been neutral to the rest, but it's only now that they actively try to remove shit that isn't Charizard (besides the likes of Porygon/Jynx but thats a special case) from existence

I'd actually be fine with that if that was the point. most little kids I see care more about fortnite or minecraft. I actually understand little as to why the older audience isn't the target audience since they tried that "we make pokemon for everyone" crap.

You'd definitely be able to make a better-balanced chart with a couple new types, but the real redpill imo is that there's simply no thematic room for new types.
Cosmic is already Psychic's turf, Sound is something that any living thing can create and is already a secondary move property, Light isn't tangible and is already covered under various existing types, Nuclear is just Poison, and Cyber is just Electric. People often use Rock/Ground as an excuse to split types into two, but all of the things listed above are still way more similar than Rock and Ground could ever be.
Literally the only thing in the known universe that doesn't behave in a way befitting an existing type is soap and disinfectants, and we all know Poison getting a nerf wouldn't exactly be helpful for balance.

that makes no sense.. you could literally apply that to any type. now I sort of see where they are going for with that in the Placibo effect or by sheer will power but that the point I feel it should be just a poison resistance.

Because Psychic would be absolutely terrible if it didn't (it's already not great and imo it's pretty weird that having mysterious psychic powers is as uunderpowered as it is).
The bigger question is why the hell does Steel resist Psychic instead of being weak to it? Psychics are famous for bending spoons.

Psychic still would have been the best typing in gen 1, when this was decided even if it wasn't SE on poison. Looking at the decision of psychic being strong against poison whilst considering the existence of steel and dark which were expressly made as psychic nerfs is plain stupid.
