One design that grew on me once I realized what it was was this little mothman guy. I love the idea of a a scary monster depicted as a cutesy creature, though still has some very uneasy tones. Maybe this could be a cute rare mon that people think is cute, but actually is a sign of disaster to come.
I also have a admittingly big stretch theory that Sableye was a spiritual successor to this guy, but aside from being based on semi obscure North American southern cryptids I can't prove much else.
