That's been a thing in Pokemon since the gems in Gen 5. Z-Crystals are the same thing. Types are elemental/magical attributes, not physical ones.

I like World (with iceborne) but I really don’t like what they did with the lore. Hell, they don’t even need bioenergy to explain its effects. The Coral highlands didn’t have to be created by the magic juice of dead elder dragons, it was created because of the fuckton of nutrients from giant corpses. Bioenergy is uneccisary and is only used to hand wave bullshit like the Guiding Lands and Safi’Jiiva’s terraforming.

You got it wrong.
Bioenergy was nothing but a plot device to explain how xeno/safi jiva came to be.
ED are "magical" and never were meant to be explainable or "believable".

Also bioenergy is used to explain things like streamstones and the rapid growth of the guiding lands, which all of the item descriptions say have some kind of mysterious power. There’s also whatever the hell was with Zora “easing the land in fire” or whatever if it died in the Recess because of it’s energy.

I'm talking about powers that have actual impact on the environment/weather, these are unexplainable and the reason why they are hunted on sight.
Teo's explosion were explained ever since he was introduced but they never why his mere presence could change the weather.
The steamstones are just the equivalent of zenith gems and the weapon honing from 4u, they arent that special.
Dont look too hard on explanations because Crapcom clearly doesn't care.
