If you didn't have a check or counter to it, you're fucked. It wasn't unbeatable and could be checked and countered, just look at Toad and its usage stats. But the amount of warping to make sure Vish was merely "under control" is a testament to over-centralization, where the flexibility of the meta is forced to be rigid in a specific way just to appease Rend.
