As I read somewhere else. I think Pokemon types represent energy things rather than being physical power. Like the flying type is more like wind energy but represent various types of flying things (like birds or literal air)

The very existence of the plates, gems, and Z-Crystals shows it.

I don't know where people are getting that the idea that types are anything more than elements. That's all they are; Fire-type Pokemon are Pokemon with an affinity towards the Fire element, Dragon-type Pokemon are Pokemon with an affinity towards the Dragon element.
