I think the starters might be the only thing of remaining significant value that they introduced. Maybe also the main legendary trio but Zygarde being gimped and exported makes me hesitant to say so.

This. XY are still the worst games in the series by far. I used to think BW were, but on my most recent playthrough I found out I just don't like the Pokémon. The overall story, characters and map design is miles ahead of XY.

I've loved XY from the moment I've first played it, I didn't magically change my opinion. Just because people start being open about what they like and stop caring about what others might think, doesn't mean they started liking it just now. Same way I still dislike the gens I, well, disliked the first time I played them, I don't suddenly start loving them out of nowhere.
