>>43785920 said. Kanto is pretty boring, and FRLG retain too much of what was in the originals to change that. I prefer the originals because I find the bugs and weird mechanics fun to abuse.
As for Emerald, it was solid for its time, but I find the other games on the list blow it out of the water with their content and staying power. The main game is well designed, bringing improvements over the original RS, and the Battle Frontier is a fun postgame distraction. However, there's not really much to do outside of BF, and I still find I prefer the main game of BW2 and especially Platinum. It's still one of the better Pokémon games, but I wouldn't call it one of the best.
